The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is India’s premier central recruiting agency responsible for conducting examinations and selecting candidates for various civil services and government positions under the Government of India. Established under Article 315 of the Indian Constitution, UPSC ensures a merit-based and transparent recruitment process for prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and many others. The Commission functions independently and plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the Indian bureaucracy.
UPSC conducts several competitive exams annually, the most notable being the Civil Services Examination (CSE), which consists of three stages: Preliminary, Mains, and the Interview (Personality Test). These exams are known for their rigorous standards and wide syllabus covering subjects like history, geography, polity, economy, and current affairs. In addition to the CSE, UPSC also conducts exams like the Indian Engineering Services (IES), Combined Defence Services (CDS), National Defence Academy (NDA), and Indian Forest Service (IFS) exams. The commission’s objective is to recruit capable and competent individuals who can contribute effectively to public administration and governance.
